Monday Morning Devo--Who's That Knocking?

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." Revelations 3:20, NASV

Did you know your heart has a door? (Your soul's heart, by the way, not the effective organ that pumps blood throughout your body.) At your very center is a door, and Jesus is knocking. He wants to come in. Will you invite Him?

When this image was first presented to me, I thought I probably would step outside and talk to Him there. I didn't want Him to see the mess my heart was in. First I'd have to sweep out the dirt, throw the old ratty furnishings out and buy some new, and wash everything down.

I pictured my heart as caked with soot and dirt, stacked with memories of sins and  unhealthy decaying remnants of an ugly life. What I didn't realize is that He already knew every inch of the mess and longed for my permission to whisk it away.

So I kept Him on the threshold, knocking and knocking and knocking. He was patient, though. He didn't give up. He knew one day I would see the passage of scripture that said He would take my heart of hard, dirty stone and replace it with a new one of soft, clean flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). A heart where He could write His words of love, forgiveness, and compassion.

Prayer: Lord, please enter our hearts and clean them out--make them new for You. Write the words there that we need to hear and know. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
