I'm not too old to enjoy a well-written YA fantasy--and R.A. Denny has put together a goodie. It's got scary adventures, heroism, and just the least hint of romance--but between whom? I know most of you are adults who are reading this--but, remembering back to when you were a teenager, didn't more than one person of the opposite sex set your pulse astir?
There are really four main characters in this book (Amanki of the mud people, who have webbed feet; Moshoi of the rock people, who have heavy scales on their backs; Brina of the tree people, who have flying-squirrel-type skin flaps between their arms and their legs; and Metlan, a human cat rider. In this book, Moshoi has been covered by a rock slide, and although he's uninjured (thanks to those heavy scales), he's unable to move because of the weight of the rocks. His younger brother, Tuka, has to take his place in searching for others who have the blue stone seals. The owners of those blue stones are ones who know that the new star is calling them together and that they have a purpose to fulfill in Adon, the One God. Only Adon knows what that task will be, exactly.
Each of them has reason to believe now that, whatever it is, their task is impossible.
Your kids (and you) will love this Tales of Tzoladia series. The Emperor's Trap is the second in the series. Available from Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
I received a free copy of this book from the author, but my opinions are my own.
