This is a Christian YA Novel, the second in The Bernovem Chronicles. I also reviewed the first in the series, The Warble, a couple of months ago. They're books full of intrigue, heroes, heroins, and a smidgen of romance. There are some writerly punctuation errors, but I'd give it a solid four stars.
In The Warble, Kristina finds herself dumped into another world called Bernoven along with two of her favorite enemies, Hester and Davina, and with her pet rat, Raymond. Together with the help of the crown prince, Werrien, they save that world from the power of a bad woman who has imprisoned the real monarchs. This book finds the same trio of girls dumped back into Bernoven a few years later for another adventure.
This time Werrien is in his rightful role as the crown prince, but there's a problem. Sometimes he's the old friendly, kind, and attentive (not to mention handsome) boy Kristina remembers--but sometimes he seems distant and different, especially when he's looking at that shard.
Your kids will no doubt enjoy this fantasy. You probably will too. Available from Amazon.
