Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:7-9, NKJV.
I usually choose varying versions of the Bible when I'm reading, and I've been using The Voice Bible this time. I'm not too sure I always agree with the whole text they put in, because they add stuff I think should be left out. However, whoever did this one commentary (in the book of Romans, not in Galatians) had this to say about the first chapter:
"Human sin and depravity are both it's cause and effect. You see, we are not only punished for our sins, but we are punished by our sins." (Italics are mine.)
Not sure about you, but I could cite a dozen or a hundred examples from my own life to prove that theory--some disastrous. I don't know why I ever thought I could "get away" with stuff. I thought no one would notice. Silly woman.
I could have avoided a lot of those mud puddles if I had just thought through the "worst case scenario" on things I wanted to do that I knew were wrong, wrong, wrong.
What did I get? Hornets nests. Fire ant piles. Snake pits. Pig droppings.
So, if you would like to avoid the heartaches of sin, don't do like I did and trot ahead ignoring the slippery edges. Think it through. Because, beloveds, your sin will find you out. You will sow what you reaped.
Go figure.
Lord, why are we always too soon old, too late smart? Help us. Grant us wisdom and eyes to see what can (and probably will) happen. Thank You, Blessed Lord. In Jesus's name, Amen.
