Book Review - OUT OF THE SHADOWS by Sally Chambers
This is a wonderful mystery, complete with pharmaceutical espionage and kidnappings on the Amazon River. I'd give it an easy five stars.
Ali is a college student grieving for her mother; in fact, doubly grieving because the accident that took her mother's life was Ali's fault--or so she feels. Her father is Dr. Matt LaMarque, a research scientist, also grieving deeply. Ali is determined to go to Brazil on a research trip with her father. Neither of them should be alone in this time of mourning, even if it means leaving behind her best friend, Kane McKenzie, her lifelong buddy who now seems to be occupying more and more of her thoughts.
Dr. Madison Kaarding is also a research scientist, one of Dr. LaMarque's associates, making beaucoup bucks. You'd think that was enough, but for some people, it's never enough.
Kanen McKenzie is a solid, dependable friend who'd like to be more than a friend to Ali.
And then there's an adorable little boy, Scottie, and his sister Caylee, another college student who, in no time flat, becomes another best friend to Ali, even though she does spend too much time praying and talking about God. The two young women plan a day's hike into the rain forest. Bad idea.
That's all I'm going to tell you, folks. You have to buy the book to find out more! Available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
I was given a free copy of this book by the author, but the opinions expressed are my own.
