Saturday Sermonette - Songs for the Heart

Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. Psalm 33:2-3, NKJV.

What is there about singing to the Lord that lifts the heart? Is it just me, or do you experience it too?

Mind you, you can't get that lift if you just sing it by rote--reading the words and music but not listening to what your mouth is saying. It takes singing from the very bottom of your last toe. It doesn't matter if you have sung the same song umpty-ump times, if it's an old hymn or a new one, if your voice sounds beautiful or a little croakish, or if you could sing it by heart.

That's what it takes, y'know. Singing it straight from your heart. Close your eyes and envision Jesus listening to you. Can you see the love in His face?

Think about it. How would you feel if someone you loved sang a song just to you--your son or daughter, your mom or dad, your spouse or your special friend?

Can you see how much that would mean to the Lord?

Try it. You'll like it. So will your heart.

Lord, You are the One we lift our praises to because You are the One who deserves all our devotion. Thank You so much for loving us back. What an honor to be loved by the King of Kings! Amen.
