Saturday Sermonette - The Source
... though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.... Hebrews 5:8-9, NKJV
I recently watched a rerun of an old Father Dowling Mysteries where Sister Stephanie was severely ill. It seems years before, Sister Steve (nickname) had sold her soul to the devil to keep her brother from the eternal flames--I guess thereby making her the savior. Worse, Father Dowling was now on the stand to defend Sister Steve so that she wouldn't die and go to you-know-where. Not once did Father Dowling mention Jesus going to the cross for her. Instead, Father Dowling argued that she had done this to save her brother and then talked about how she was such a good person--making either Father Dowling or herself as her savior.
Wow. I'm not a Catholic, but I'm fairly certain they still consider Jesus as the source of our salvation.
Be careful. There are so very many who are deceived into thinking it's how good they are that gets them eternal life. Ain't so. It's a free gift from God through His Son for everyone who asks. Have you asked?
Father, please give us clear eyes to see the Way, the Truth, and the Life--Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
