And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32, NKJV
Have you ever heard the Lord speak to you? Not many people have heard Him with their ears, but lot have heard Him in their hearts--and when that happens, it does sorta feel like the heart speeds up and warms.
Most times God speaks with a "still, small voice"--more like a faint whisper or a finger pointing or a friendly nudge. Once in a very great while, it's more like the soft but firm voice of a parent, one that you can't deny or argue with. It's usually brief and to the point. At least in my own experience, He's never made a long speech.
With the two men walking to Emmaus, I'd bet it wasn't a long-winded spiel. Remember when Jesus explained His parables to His disciples? Succinct, but illuminating. When He speaks, it's like turning a light on in a dark room.
When You become His disciple, He wants you to understand. Expect Him to turn that light on for you. You might not hear His voice, but you will experience His illumination.
Father, please light up your words to us. Help us to understand and follow Your directions, and to know You better. Thanks, Lord.
