Book Review - THE CHRISTMAS PRIMER by Sue Badeau

I loved this little story to pieces, and I'm positive you will too. Only 99 cents to find out--you probably dump out more coffee than that in a day's time.

It's about a six-year-old boy, Titus King, living in Vermont during the Civil War. His parents, former slaves, were so proud that this small son would be going to school and learning to read and write. He was the first in his family to go to school. Near Christmas, his teacher says if he can read page nineteen in his first primer in front of the whole class, he will be allowed to take it home. He's scared, but he does it, and he tucks it under his coat to take home.

It's been a tight year. Everything they have to spare has gone into gifts and food for the colored soldiers in the Massachusetts 54th. Titus wants to give his parents something for Christmas, though. But what?

This short story is available on Amazon. Well worth the price!
