Monday Morning Devo--When the Bridegroom Knocks

"Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect." Luke 12:35-40 NAS Bible

Whether you believe that there will be a glorious second coming or that Jesus comes to gather each person individually doesn't really matter. It's not a condition of our salvation to believe in the second coming or the individual coming. All Jesus asks is that we be ready.

What does it mean to "be ready?"

1. That you know your Savior and you yield your life to Him. If you haven't done that yet, it's not as scary or as big a step as you think. All it takes is (a) a simple confession that you haven't lived a perfect life and you ask Him to forgive you; and (b) yield to His ways. Please trust what I'm about to tell you: He loves you, and He wants only the best for you. He will not lead you wrong. He's got more smarts than you!

2. That you begin following where He leads. Get acquainted with Him (read the Bible and listen to people you know follow Him). It might not be easy; He never promised us an easy life, just a blessed one.

3. Begin talking with Him every day. You're bound to find someone who needs help or prayer--tell Him about it. Yes, He already knows, but for some reason He wants us to talk to Him and to ask for what is needed, at least to the best of our knowing what is needed. Listen as you talk to Him. He will communicate with you, too.

Prayer: Precious Father, Loving Jesus, Holy Spirit--please hear us as we admit we don't always do what is right. Forgive us, we ask, and lead us in Your way. Only You know the right path, and we need Your guidance to find it. Bless us, please, and draw us close to you. We are ready, Lord.
