Saturday Sermonette--Better Late than Never?

You've heard the term "better late than never," probably someone justifying themselves because they were late getting something promised done. Sometimes, though, late becomes never.

You make a promise but it slips your mind, or something else comes up that you'd rather do or that you consider more important. But what if that promise broken devastates the person promised?

Children expect parents to keep promises, and when those promises are kept it teaches the child to keep promises. If you don't keep the promise or are late, it teaches the child that promises are unimportant.

Before you go thinking I'm being judgmental, I'm talking about myself. I've been late on promises and sometimes forgotten them altogether--at least until reminded. Broken promises to my children bother me the most.

How about broken promises to your boss? Those can be a little more devastating, from a loss of trust to a bad review to a lost job. Promises are important. Every promise.

We also make promises to our spouses when we get married. We promise loyalty--but sometimes we flirt with others and before we know it are in front of a judge asking for a divorce. We promise to honor them, but then snip about him/her behind his/her back or even in front of them. We promise to love them, but forget that when arguments come up.

Will we chose to delay resolution--better late than never? Will we keep our promises, but late or never?

God never said life would be easy. Keeping promises is often difficult. But let's try, okay? Better late than never? Better on time or early, even!

PS--You might notice that this Saturday Sermonette is a little later than usual...no excuses.

Hi Chris--
I hope you read this reply--I couldn't find a place to follow (tried pushing the lovely "follow" knocker button) and didn't see a place to leave a comment. Probably chalk this up to my technical challengedness!
Hugs back!

PS--It's a lovely blog you have, by the way! Beautiful flowers and neat handicrafts.
