Monday Morning Devo - Receiving Comfort to Give Comfort

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Pain--whether it physical or of the heart--is no fun to go through, and praising God at the time of the pain is not easy. We don't usually see the rainbow until near or after the end of the storm. In the case of heartsickness, it can be a long time after.

God doesn't intend for us ever to go through pain alone. He's always there, and if you pay attention you will feel His comfort. What always amazes, me though, is how many people step forward to say, "I've been where you are, and I understand how you feel."

Strange how knowing you aren't the first or only one to suffer a problem helps so immensely.

God also doesn't intend for us to hold that incoming comfort to ourselves. He wants us to also step forward to help others. Strange--but when we help others, our own hurt diminishes.

Strange, but true.

Prayer: Lord, please help me through this trying time--heal my illness or hurting heart; and then please help me to find others who also need someone who understands. With our gratitude and for Your glory, Lord. Amen.
