Monday Morning Devo - Reminders

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? Psalm 8:3-4, NKJV.

When I get to wondering where God is and why I can't "feel" His presence, all I have to do is step outside the door and look up. There might be sunshine or clouds, a gorgeous sunrise or a full moon. How could I doubt God when I can see what a wonderful work He does with the heavens and the earth?

Yesterday morning I was getting out of my car on the way into church. I look up and see thousands of snow geese scooting across the sky, carrying on goose conversations, encouraging each other. I was almost late to church because I didn't want to close the door to the beautiful sound and sight. How do they get back to the right place after summering (or wintering) in another place?

Don't tell me they always fly the same path. I grew up in Challis, Idaho, where large flights of geese weren't often seen (or heard)--but I remember a spring night when I was a teenager and flock after flock of geese flew over our little town. It was highly unusual--but still, those geese arrived at their usual nesting grounds.

I believe God guides them. I believe sunsets, rainbows, and God rays are all God's doing. After all, who put the law of physics in place? Or put the moon, sun, and stars where they are? Or created the miracle that is humankind?

It amazes me that He still wants to spend time with us, so I think I'll grant Him some of my time. How about you?

Lord--thank You for the reminders that You are still here and that You still care for all of us, Your own design. For Jesus's sake, Amen.

Walking By Faith said...

I have always found that I could see God in nature; to stand and watch the world around me, so filled with wonder and deep complexities, seemed always to speak to me of the HIS presence. The first encounter I had with God was when I was about 9; it was hot, the sky was clear and very blue. I stood staring up at the sky and wondering how deep it was; how far did it go. I think at that moment something of the immensity of God entered into my soul, and it has never left. Thinking about our bodies, how they are made, how each organ functions and how all our tissue is built from the same building blocks and with just a small change in this molecule or that, how that changes the different tissues within us; how fearfully and wonderfully made the Bible tells us. Yes, I see HIM in it all and it is truly good.

I totally agree. Our bodies, our minds, all the organs working together--so wonder-inspiring!
