This is a really cool young adult dog story. Well, sort of a dog story. You'll see what I mean when you read the book. Five solid stars.
Jake is a black and tan coonhound with only one eye. Somehow, he seems to see more with that one eye than most dogs do with two. Ty says Jake is his guardian angel. His twin, Cameron, thinks Ty is nuts.
Nobody denies that the coonhound is definitely Ty's dog, and that the dog shows up waiting for him every day from the school bus--or in other odd places that the dog wouldn't have known Ty would be, like when their dad drops the two 14-year-olds off at a church miles from their house and doesn't come back after them.
The dad isn't all that great a dad, hot-tempered and violent. The mom is missing, probably living somewhere drunk as she was the day she dumped them at their father's house. The step mother is not all so wonderful either. Both father and mother are definitely slave-drivers.
A sad life for two young boys. They really need a guardian angel.
Go ahead. Get it. The kids will love the book, and so will you. Available from Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
I received a free book from the author, but my opinions are my own.
