Monday Morning Devo - Sometimes
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. Philippians 1:3-7, NKJV.
Sunday I was asked to preach for a small congregation, and since it was Father's Day, of course I wanted to talk about fatherhood. I thought I'd start out with what a great dad I had (because I did) and end up with what a great Father God is.
Sometime along the way, the thought occurred to get more than just my own often not-so-humble opinion, so I put a request on FaceBook for others to tell me what made for a good father. Wow. So many wise and wonderful people responded!
And then that morning, since I had some time before I had to leave, I picked out a movie to watch, like often happens on Sunday mornings. Some friends had made lots of suggestions of neat Christian movies to watch, I selected one, Courageous, not knowing what it was about--and again, Wow! They didn't tell me it was going to be all about fatherhood.
I'd love for you to watch this movie, so I'm not telling you what all happens, but trust me--it's just fantastic, and so perfect for Father's Day.
Sometimes, God just puts things together so perfectly that even dense, hard-headed, and independent me--even I can figure out the message.
Thanks, God. You are so good! Amen.
