Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. Hebrews 13:8-9a
It was Charles Sheldon who coined the phrase, "What Would Jesus Do (WWJD)," in his novel In His Steps. Some one of his characters in the book said it was impossible to do as Jesus would do in this modern age (considering that "modern" meant late 1900s at the time it was written). The pastor of a church in this fictional town challenged his congregation to ask themselves what action the Christ would take in any given situation. Somehow that pastor's challenge took root, and the entire town was changed.
People will say the same thing these days--that we shouldn't have to do as Jesus did anymore. That mores have changed, modernized. Adultery (and/or fornication) is acceptable in certain situations. Murder is necessary occasionally. Theft is okay when you're hungry. Lying is sometimes preferable. Going to church is optional. Remembering the Lord all day every day is impossible. Praying without ceasing? You gotta be kidding.
The older I get, the more I realize how true Jesus's teachings were--and ARE. I look back on my life and see ramifications over stupid actions I took and others took. Those ramifications are sometimes neverending. The law of physics that says every action has an equal and opposite reaction is true in life too, except that sometimes sin has horrifyingly prolific repercussions.
So I agree with Mr. Sheldon--let's ask ourselves, WWJD. I just did, and He says, "Right on! Post this!"
Prayer: Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit--What would You do--or what would You have me do--today?
