Saturday Morning Sermonette - And my reason is....

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25, NKJV.

Why do you go to church (if you do) or why don't you go (if you don't go)?

According to a recent poll, most who go, go to hear the sermon. It's not the music, it's not their friends, it's not the food. Well, not the before-church or after-church goodies, anyway.

I do love a sermon that makes me think. Even one that makes me squirm. But it occurred to me this week but none of those reasons are the real reason we should be going. Do you see anything in that scripture reference to "a really great sermon?" Or the food or friends? Nope.

We go to build each other up. Encourage each other. Exhort real, positive changes in lives, yours and mine. We are to gather together to give, not just get.

NOT THAT A GOOD SERMON HURTS ANYTHING! No, far from it. Millions of people get "fed" the Good News every single Sunday--or Saturday if you are a Sabbath-day worshiper. Some even absorb it.

Some go to sleep. But I digress...

Remember that as you go to your church service this week. Give a little. We are also called to minister.

Lord, help us remember, next time we're bored with the sermon or songs that there's still a valid reason for us to go to church. In Jesus's Wonderous Name, Amen.
