Monday Morning Devo - Rest

{Jesus says] "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

You might notice that the picture above shows a single set of tracks in the sand. A person might expect that if Jesus were helping you there should be two sets of tracks--but not if He is carrying you through some tough times.

Sometimes our burdens seem way too heavy to carry. We worry about tomorrow and the next day or next month. Bills are coming due. Illness (yours or someone you're caring for) is becoming more than you can bear. The help you thought would see you through hasn't come. The waves are getting higher, the storm clouds darker, and the wind is strong enough to blow you over.

So we cry out to God, "Lord, help me!"

There have been a lot of times when I thought those waves would swamp me for sure, but they didn't. Somehow, there was always enough to pay the bills. There might not be enough left over to do any fun stuff, just the necessities. Illnesses...sometimes, it just takes hanging onto God through whatever comes. Trusting that He will see you through and carry you through the toughest parts.

Grace. Strength. Hope. Peace.

Hang in there, friends. Our help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.

Lord, we do need You always. Even when times are good, we still need You. Thank You for carrying us past the bad stuff and rejoicing with us through the good things. Forever and ever, You are God. Amen.
