Saturday Sermonette - The Worst is Not the Last

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33

I'm pretty sure that when I gook this picture of my grandson, he was sincerely wishing that this tiring day would end. Being part of a wedding ceremony might be joyful for some, but when all in the world you want is to be left alone and sleep for a week, maybe not so joyful.

You've probably had similar experiences, and you will have them again--some worse than others. Sometimes all you can do is hang on. Sometimes you will wish the world would just explode into bits of nothing, yourself with it--but hang in there. Life was never meant to be easy and constantly happy.

Someone wiser than I am once noted that if it weren't for the pain-filled tearful times, we wouldn't appreciate as much the times of peace, contentment, and laughter. That's life.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves "this too will pass." Yes, it will. One day there will be joy greater than we can at the dark times imagine. Remind yourself a dozen times a day that better times are coming. Or more, if necessary. It will happen. The worst will be over, and the joyful laughter will return.

Put your hand in God's. He'll bring you safely through.

Dear Lord, thank You for that promised hope. You have overcome and are overcoming and will overcome all the hurt and heaviness in and around us. Amen.

Well said! I'm just now pulling out of a 2-year long illness and noticing how much I took for granted just having some energy!
