The Mullens are about to have an adventure. Jim stops on his way home from work in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, to pick up a few groceries. A girl about his daughter Jillian's age approaches him, carrying a baby wrapped in a towel and asking for a loan of enough money to buy some baby milk. A loan?
The girl is thin, pale, and sweaty. Samantha doesn't look so well. When Jim asks how old her baby is, she guesses about two or three hours. He takes her out to his car, intending to take her to the hospital, but he doesn't have an infant seat. He calls 9-1-1, and the EMTs take her and the baby to the hospital.
When Jim relates his story to Jillian, she's pretty sure she knows the girl. So, as soon as they finish eating dinner, they drive to the hospital to visit Samantha.
