I think this novel has to be the most soul-grabbing one I have read this year--even among Kathi's others, of which there are a bu-unch of dynamic, breath-holding books.
Josie finds herself homeless after her husband dies, leaving her too deep in debt to hang onto anything but her pride. He hadn't told her he'd lost his job, taken them to the edge of bankruptcy, and wouldn't even tell her he was sick--until it was too late even to save his life.
On the street with two children, she goes from one shelter to the next or sleeps behind the cleaners. She wonders if she'll ever feel safe again, if her children will be able to go to school, or what she can do to get out of these unbelievable circumstances.
And then Rick shows up. He wins her children's confidence and affection, but Josie worries about everyone they meet on the street. And she has her pride. She doesn't want to be beholden to anyone, or cause anyone any trouble.
Admirable traits--but not even God can break through that much armor. Or can He?

Thank you so much, Anne, for the wonderful review of Unexpected Christmas Hero. An added point: the man who posed for the cover, Willard Parker, is himself homeless and looking to be reunited with his family, particularly his now grown daughter. If you know Mr. Parker or any of his family members--wherever they may be--will you leave a message here to so I can contact you? Thank you so much!
Sounds like a wonderful book! Kathi is an awesome author!
Yes it is, and yes she is!
This looks like a great read to me. Nice cover, too. Thanks for presenting Anne.
There are more people than we might expect out there who have found themselves in similar situations as Kathi's character, Josie. This book is truly written to touch the heart of many.
I've read a bunch of Kathi's other books and can't wait to read this one!!
Kathi knows how to hit the social issues long before the rest of the world finds them important. As a person and an author, Kathi is one of my favorites.

Anne
PS--carefully, of course, leaving no evidence that you read it first. Keep kleenex handy so that you don't drip teardrops on the pages...

Carol--Thanks, but I'm not sure I'm expert enough to be giving advice! The only two things I can advise are time and persistence. I've been blogging since 2009, but it's only been in the last year that I've seen an increase.
I have this book on my Christmas Wish List. I'd love to win a copy before then so I can get to reading it. Blessings!

Kathi Macias is one of my favorite author. Thank you for introducing another book by Kathi to us. It will go to my wish list on Amazon.
I really loved it, maybe the best one she's written since Red Ink. I think that one was my intro to her books. She is so good!
Would love to win this! tracy@tracyandmarc.net
This sounds like a beautiful book. chefamanda at gmail dot com
Trust me, it is a beautiful book that almost anyone would love to have.
This book sounds amazing. Kathi Macias is a great writer so I can imagine the book is great and what a wonderful time to read a book about Christimas and giving.
Agreed...
And although it's written about the Christmas time period, it would be a great read any time of year!
