My Story Tuesday - Anne Baxter
God is still in the healing business.
My family has had several experiences with it, both to ourselves and to friends. I have to admit, most times God's answer has been "no" or "not now." Which maybe makes those times when the answer was "yes" all that more precious.
One of the times is amusing, in a way. We had taken a trip to California from our small town in Idaho. Somewhere along the road, our 1-1/2-year-old son found a nasty cold bug. Or it found him. He was having coughing spells that would last several minutes. It wasn't like we could keep him home. We were a thousand miles from home, and we had to eat.
We had been listening to a tape on God's healing as we traveled, and one of the phrases repeated in the tape was that Jesus had been bruised for our iniquities and by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5 and I Peter 2:24). We went into a cafe for dinner and for a break from a long day's driving.
Our son began coughing. I leaned over and whispered in his ear, "By His stripes you are healed." He stopped coughing immediately. This happened about three or four times, and then he quit coughing for good.
I don't know what the other customers thought I whispered in the baby's ears to instantaneously interrupt his coughing jag. Maybe it was good there wasn't a policeman amongst the visitors to that cafe that night. They might have thought I whispered threats to his life his life and well-being; who knows?
