God's love is such a marvel to me. How can he look on on the inside of all of us--gritty, scarred, goofups--and still love us is more than I can comprehend.
We make promises to Him and others that we don't keep. We hurt the ones we love and Him in the process. We lie (just white lies), cheat (but only on our taxes), and hide behind excuses.
We yell at others for doing exactly as we have done. We accuse others when we get it wrong. We blame others for our mistakes.
And yet...and yet He loves us. He encourages us to improve on ourselves and let our anger go. He forgives us and encourages us to forgive others just as wholeheartedly. He believes the best in us.
His love is like a soft, stretchy sweatshirt, sweatpants, and fur-lined slippers on a cool morning, warming us. Like a down comforter. Like sunshine after a chilly rain. He warms the heart, lifts the spirit, binds the wounds.
What does He ask in return? He asks that we would give Him our own hearts without reservation. He asks that we would follow Him so that He can lead us on the right paths. So that He can bring us out of the shadows into the light. So that He can bear our burdens. So that He can help us become all that we can be. So that we can discover what wonders He has in store for use.
Is it too much to ask?
