Saturday Sermonette - In His Name
"If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." John 14:14
“If you love Me, keep My commandments." John 14:15
(NKJV)
We're pretty quick to ask the Lord to do what we want, tacking "In Jesus Name" at the end of the prayer, demanding a miracle or at least a favor. Are we equally as quick to jump to do the things He asks of us?
I wish I were. Like Paul, I feel like "the worst offender." I was supposed to be writing or maybe putting things away that we brought to our new house from the ranch house. But did I do that? No....'fraid not. At least not until I started this.
I always have good intentions, but then I start doing something else.... Well, you know the story. I could use a little of that obsessive-compulsive thing. I love having a clean house, but it's not. God wants me to finish the book I'm writing, but I haven't. The garage still has enough boxes in it that the car won't fit. Lazy, lazy, lazy.
I relate to the Apostle Paul when he said, "For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do." (Romans 7:15, NKJV) I figure if Paul had this same problem and God forgave him, God will probably forgive me too. But I love Him, and I want to do better. I want to do what He asks of me, nothing wavering. I want to be constantly in His Name.
Maybe if I take small steps, I can obey more often. I'll try. Will you?
Lord, we want to do what is right, what pleases you, but we are weak. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to do what you ask. Thank You, Lord.

I'm sorry for the new restrictions on commenting--spam has gotten out of control, and I'm trying to stop the problem. Before the comments show up on the blog, I will now need to approve them. Don't panic. If your comment isn't spam or just plain ugly, it will show up later.
These were the same thoughts I had this morning. So glad I am not alone in thinking that I need to stop doing what I have been when wasting time and start doing what I can to complete projects. Although other devotions mentioned resting in the Lord too. Can we do both?
ReplyDeleteI do believe we also need rest. My problem is that I'm playing games when I should be working. It would be okay if I just used them for diversions when I need a rest--but when I spend nearly all day playing Spider Solitaire.... Well, you know what I mean. :/
