Saturday Sermonette—Isaiah’s Song of Salvation

Isaiah 26:18-19, NKJV
Part of Israel’s lament: “We have been with child, we have been in pain; We have, as it were, brought forth wind; We have not accomplished any deliverance in the earth, Nor have the inhabitants of the world fallen.”
God’s response: “Your dead shall live; Together with my dead body they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust; For your dew is like the dew of herbs, And the earth shall cast out the dead.”

I ran across this scripture the other evening, and as they do on occasion, it resonated in my heart.
Keep in mind this was written about 600 years before Jesus was born. Most of Israel didn't seem to "see" that scripture while Jesus walked this earth--including his own disciples. They didn't understand He must die.

I don't think most of them really understood God loving us enough to send His own Son to be the only pure and spotless lamb sacrifice ever. Not even the very best young bull or ram or dove or sparrow could come close to perfection. Jesus did, and then He died.

But He didn't stay dead. He rose from the dust. Death couldn't keep Him. Everyone who believes in Him will rise like dew onto a dry land, and the earth will cast out the dead.

When we're in pain as severe as childbirth for no apparent reason, He acts.

Thanks, Lord. You are awesome.
