Aaliyah is a pretty young wife and mother in Capurnaum--pretty except for the spots on her face and body that have begun to show up lately.
When the physician tells her she has contracted leprosy, her beloved husband Tyrus concludes God must be punishing her for something terrible. She is banished from the village to a leper colony in nearly hills, unable to even see her son or husband, forced to call out "unclean" if anyone ventures too close. One friend, Hannah, remains loyal to her and brings her food.
Her bitterness against God bounces off the other lepers and even Hannah until one called Meira helps her think of others beside herself.
There seems no hope for Aaliyah, but Hannah comes one day with good news. Does it come too late?

ReplyDeleteLeprosy is such a terrible disease. Thank God that modern medicine has made it treatable. Maybe even curable, but I'm not sure about that.

DeleteDuring Bible times, anything spotting a person was called Leprosy. A few years back, I got an infection (one doctor said fungus, another said staph) that was really hard to get rid of. Several places on my body where I had had mosquito bites, a dog bite (our own dog!), or even small cuts became infected. I had to keep everything medicated and covered. That would have been called Leprosy in those days, and justly so--it was something other folks should not come in contact with or they'd get it, too. Doubly scarey in those times!
Leprosy??? Did she achieve it heal? only and healer's touch can do it! I want read that book!!!!
