Monday Morning Devo - Going Fishing
Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” John 21:2-3
Jesus told His disciples over and over, in several different ways, that He would be killed but would rise again on the third day. Despite all the times He tried to tell them, it seems they just didn’t really get it, that they were supposed to begin spreading the Word. Even after the Resurrection, after they rejoiced, they didn’t really know what to do. Peter and his pals went back to fishing. I don’t know where the rest of them went. Until Pentecost. That seems to be the day the light turned on for them. So now we hold our breaths until then?
Lord, sometimes I wonder what we're waiting for. Why are we so unafraid to tell off our spouses, our children, our parents, friends, and relations--but we're afraid to offer them the gift of life? Such a precious thing we can give them, but still we ruminate hesitate, procrastinate. Fill us to overflowing with Your Spirit, please, so we can't help but go tell Your good news! For Jesus's sake, Amen.
