Monday Morning Devo - Valleys are Purposeful

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 1 Peter 1:3-4, NKJV.

Tribulations (aka, troubles common to all of us) produce good character traits in us--if we let them. Tribulations don't have to be deserved, although sometimes they are. I don't know about you, but sometimes I've done stupid things that sent me tumbling down into the valley.

Spent too much on something fun  or frivolous? Result: Valley of overdue bills and the hassle that comes from that.

Indulged an urge that was definitely wrong, wrong, wrong? Result: Valley of messed up marriage or relationships.

Lost temper? Result: Same as above or worse--the Valley of jail.

However, some valleys aren't caused by anything done wrong--or at least, not anything done by us.

Whatever put us in that valley, we can learn from it. Somewhere down the road we can avoid the same tumble and/or help someone else headed for or in the tumble.

Everyone has the capacity to learn from mistakes or find the way out of our own personal tribulations, especially if we resort to prayer, right?

Lord, this valley doesn't feel good, and I don't know how anything good can come from it--but You do. Guide me to that good, please, for Your sake and in Your name. Amen.
