Book Review - NO NEUTRAL GROUND by Terri Wangard

Terri Wangard is really developing into a dynamic writer--This is her second novel, and she's really learned the knack of keeping you on your toes and wondering what's next.

Rolf Schilling is indignant--he's been ejected from the Hitler Youth. And of all things, as a Jew. He's blond-haired and blue-eyed, and he could have been the poster boy for Hitler's Aryan Nation. He stomps home and confronts his mother. Turns out his mother's parents, even though they're from Sweden--also fair complexioned--are in fact Jews.

His father works for the railroad, and he's directed to divorce his wife. He tells her it's only until Hitler's out of office, surely not all that long. But Rolf's mother and her parents make their way to Sweden and from there to the US before war breaks out. His name is changed to Rafe Martell, and bitterness has taken root that his father would divorce his mother. By the time the war breaks out, he's become a navigator in the Air Force, and they'll be dropping bombs on his home country--and maybe even kill his father in one of their raids. How can he do that, even with the anger he's hiding inside?

Jennie Lindquist meets him on a passenger ship cum troop carrier on the way to their respective places of work. She's an artist on her way to Sweden to join her father and put together a showing of the neutral country during the War. She's got another purpose there too, but that's not something she can share with this handsome young man.

Intrigue follows her to....

Oh, wait. I can't tell you that. Buy the book. Available from Amazon.

I was given a free copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.
