Song Stories - O Holy Night
This is one of the most amazing stories I've come across in looking for the history behind a hymn.
A priest in a small French town commissioned a local wine commissioner, better known as a poet than a faithful church attender, to write a song for a Christmas. So Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure did--in a coach on a dusty road on the way to Paris. He read the story in Luke and began to imagine himself there as the miraculous events of that holy night took place. By the time he reached the city the lyrics were written.
However, Placide was lacking musical ability or talent. He contacted a musically talented friend, Adolphe Charles Adams. The man must have had a tough time with this song--he didn't celebrate Christmas, and he didn't consider Jesus to be the Son of God. Alolphe was a devout Jew.
Nevertheless, the two men together managed to create a song that has brought thousands to their knees in worship of the King of Kings. Now, is that a God thing or not?
Listen HERE.
Jesus, You are amazing and totally cool. Two people who were anything but believers inspired by You to create such a song lifts me to Your heaven. You could make the rocks sing for joy! Thank You, Lord!
