Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, or of good report; if there be any virtue or praise, I will blog on these things. ~ Anne Baxter Campbell

Saturday Sermonette - Gifts of the Spirit: Miracles
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:4-11, NKJV
The working of miracles--who wouldn't want that gift!?! This is separate from the gifts of healings. Miracles could include bringing someone back to life who died (like Jesus did), parting a lake or river to walk through on dry land (like Moses and Joshua), or bringing water out of a rock in the desert (like Moses).
A lot of people would insist this type of thing doesn't happen anymore. I have to admit I haven't personally observed it, but I read Like a Mighty Wind by Mel Tari. Have you? If you click on the bolded blue writing there, it will take you to the Amazon link. It tells the story of an awesome revival on the island of Timor in 1965. Not long ago, I reviewed a book on this blog (click HERE) by Megan Boudreaux and Susy Flory called Miracle on Voodoo Mountain. There are a few miracles in there too. This blue link on the name of the book will also take you to the place on Amazon where you can buy a copy.
Google "modern day raising of the dead" and count how many testimonies of people who have witnessed the phenomenon there are. Or google "modern day miracles of God." Or use your own imagination to find these lists.
God isn't dead, nor does He sleep. He still knows His business.
Now--that aside--not everyone should be raised from the dead, should they? Not all lakes should be parted so we can walk on dry land. I don't think God is capricious, nor do I think we should demand unnecessary miracles. I do believe we should pray as He leads--and if that includes praying for a miracle, then do it.
I'd love to hear from people who have experienced or witnessed miracles such as these. You can leave a comment below.
Father God, You are still able. You haven't lost Your touch, but we have. Teach us the difference between necessary and unnecessary. Show us, Lord, what You would do, because that is what I want to do--exactly what You want me to, no more and no less. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
