Monday Morning Devo - Imperfect Hearts

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Philippineans 3:12, NKJV.

One day I decided to make some chocolate hearts. Because I carved them by hand, no two were just alike, nor were any of them perfect. They all had nicks and lumps and holes and uneven edges.

I got to thinking. Isn't that just like us? We have to come to God with all our imperfections, dents and scratches and missing parts, because we've tried on our own to make ourselves perfect. Can't be done, can it? That's God's job, you see.

The important thing is that we know we're imperfect and that we can safely put ourselves in the hands of a perfect God. He loves us just as we are, warts and all.

Then he can smooth off the rough edges, fill in the empty places, and get rid of the bumps. All we have to do is ask.

Lord, we do ask. We ask that You accept us, imperfect though we are. We ask that you work on removing our bad parts and enhancing our good parts. And finally, we ask that you grant us the joy of seeing You face to face on that beautiful day when we can leave this earth and enter Your kingdom. In Jesus's name and for His glory, Amen
