Author Interview--Writers of Entries in Upcoming FEAR NOT Devotional (free book)

Anne: Sometime soon, my new devotional, Fear Not, will be released--hopefully sometime during July. So, in the next few weeks, I want you to get to know each of the writers in the devo a little better. I asked each of them the same questions. If they have a website, you can click on their names to find out more about them.

The first person whose writing you will see in Fear Not is Kathi Macias, a name that might be familiar to many of you. She's a well-known Christian author and an acquisitions editor for Elk Lake Publishing, the house that is publishing this work.

Kathi, Why did you volunteer to write the foreword for Fear Not?

Kathi: I was only 19 and pregnant with our second child when I learned I had cancer. That was an incredibly tough time, and it might have been easier if I’d had a book like this back then. I pray Fear Not blesses many!

Anne:  What is the one thing you want people to know about you?

Kathi: I am “the disciple Jesus loves.” All the rest is just fluff.

Anne: Why is clinging to God when you are afraid important for you personally?

Kathi: We become more like Him when we’re hanging on by the fingernails, totally dependent on Him and not relying on our own (ridiculously limited) abilities. It’s when we’re in the trenches with God that we decrease and He increases in us.

Anne:  What is your next writing project--or what is the next important event in your life?

Kathi: I just contracted to write my 2015 Christmas novel for New Hope Publishers. Haven’t started it yet, but I’m looking forward to it because it deals with a topic near and dear to my heart—returning vets with PTSD. Can’t wait to dive in to the research and writing!

The next person up for interview is Ginger Soloman, mother of seven, and author of One Choice, her debut novel.

Ginger, Why did you contribute to Fear Not?

Ginger: The purpose of the project, to help others, appealed to me. There have been times in life when fear has kept me from doing something, and I don’t want to live that way, nor do I want anyone else to do so. Whenever and whatever I write, I want my work to glorify God and help others. Even if only one is encouraged then that is enough.

Anne: What is the one thing you want people to know about you?

Ginger: Wow. One thing. I’m a normal person. I have a family who have certain requirements of me—laundry, dinner, etc. Sometimes, I make mistakes (okay, a lot of times).

Anne: Why is clinging to God when you are afraid important for you personally?

Ginger: God is the only person who will not let me down. He is always there, even when I can’t “feel” Him. He has promised He will never leave me nor forsake me. Without Him, I would be nothing, and anything I do would be without meaning.

Anne: What is your next writing project--or what is the next important event in your life?

Ginger: I have several things going right now, but I’m not sure when or if anything will be published. I hope to know soon, but publishing seems to be another one of those times when you hurry up and wait.

Anne: The third one today is Sue Tornai, one of the sweetest ladies you'd ever want to meet. She's a prolific writer with many accomplishments to her credit. I hope you'll stop by and visit her website.

Sue, why did you contribute to Fear Not?

Sue: Many people today have cancer or someone in their family has cancer. It was important for me to say that God gave my husband, John, and me strength when we faced the expensive medications. We wondered if they were worth it. Would they make John sick? Sometimes they did, but faith in God has brought us peace and we find joy in the midst of suffering.

Anne: What is the one thing you want people to know about you?

Sue: I want people to know that the name of Jesus has power. When I am afraid, when I don't know what to say, I cry, "Jesus, Jesus, help!" He is faithful.

Anne: Why is clinging to God when you are afraid important for you personally?

Sue: Many years I stood alone, without God's amazing love. Today, I rest in my Lord, knowing He will never leave me and He is always with me.

Anne: What is your next writing project--or what is the next important event in your life?

Sue: I am working on a couple assignments with Standard Publishing. May God be glorified!
