Monday Morning Devo--Simeon and Anna

And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Luke 2:25-26

And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. Luke 2:37-38

Two older Hebrews, there when Jesus paid His first visit to the temple. Simeon, guided by the Holy Spirit, came to the temple that special day; Anna lived at the temple. Mary and Joseph showed up with the Baby Jesus. Both Simeon and Anna knew Who this Child was and Who He would be.

What a miracle it was for them! If you read on after verse 26, you'll see that basically Simeon said, "Now I can die happy because I have seen the Promised One of God." He proceeded to prophesy over Jesus to Mary and Joseph. Anna began telling the whole temple-full of people about the Child. I wonder what people thought as they heard the news that day.

It was a day for rejoicing. Even Mary and Joseph were amazed. Are you prepared to be amazed? Are you ready to rejoice? Will you let Jesus be born again in the temple of your heart?

Prayer: Lord, I am ready. Come into my heart again in a new and amazing way. You are my Promised One, my Way, my Truth, my Life. Take it over, Lord. My heart belongs to You. Amen.
